Rune Factory Wiki

Weapons and Equipment are items in Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon.

Equipment[]

Equipment refers to the various Tools the protagonist can use to raise crops, mine from boulders, go fishing, and tame monsters. It also includes Empty Bottles, which are used to store Medicine. Except for these bottles, using a tool will add XP to the associated Skill.

In the second generation, Aaron and Aria can upgrade these tools using the Crafting system or Wi-Fi Evolution.

Weapons[]

"Do you fight with finesse or unbridled fury? All of the weapons in Tanya's armory feature distinct characteristics--both advantages and disadvantages-- to match your combat style."
―Instruction Booklet

Weapons is a Skill as well as a type of item. Kyle can purchase weapons from the Sharper Edge Blacksmith. Aaron and Aria can make purchases there as well, or forge advanced weapons at Alvarna Academy.

Each weapon type has a few base weapons which can be upgraded along various evolution lines. Some weapons may appear weaker than the one they "evolved" from, but a weapon's strength is determined by more than only its attack score. Many weapon lines have elemental attributes, which increase their damage against weapons weak to that element. Some increase the wielder's defensive stats, and others inflict status ailments on the enemy, such as the Poisoned status.

See the weapon's specific page for details about its attributes and maximum damage.

Shortswords[]

Shortswords use a series of quick, close-range strikes. They're good for fast chains of move combos. Because they are one-handed, the protagonist can keep the defense boost of a Shield at the same time. The charge attack for a short sword propels the protagonist forward in a stabbing motion.

Longswords[]

Longswords use a slightly slower series of long, sweeping strikes. They deal heavier damage than a shortsword. The longsword charge attack is a single sweeping blow that strikes all enemies in front of you.

Hammers[]

Hammers can also be used on rocks to increase the Mining Skill. The impact from a hammer can stun enemies, and has the highest base damage output. However, the strikes are slow. The charge strike has the protagonist run forward a few paces before bringing the hammer down.

Axes[]

Axes are similar to hammers, in that the strike is a single overhead blow. They also have the second-highest base attack score, but, like the Hammers, the attack is slow. They cannot get wood from branches and stumps. The charge attack the protagonist run forward a few paces before striking.

Spears[]

Spears and their evolutions, lances, strike out in a straight line, allowing the longest range among the melee weapons. However, this requires more precise aim. Upgraded spears are Lances, and the charge move for these pole-arms propels the wielder forward, much like the shortsword.

Rods[]

These magical staves aren't much good for melee combat, but they greatly increase the effectiveness of spells if equipped while casting. The charge attack releases a single-projectile version of Sonic Wind toward the enemy.
