Rune Factory Wiki

In Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, Gates are magically imbued portals that serve as entrance to the human world, for monster, from the Forest of Beginning, or vice versa. Gates also have elemental properties and affinities; they are vulnerable to their elemental weakness and strong against their own element.

Although the pink-colored gates (Heart Gates) have the Love elemental property, Love is not considered an element. Therefore, Heart Gates resemble Neutral Gates in terms of elemental damage.

Neutral Gates and Gale Gates have the same color, which is why they are often confused.

Party members, befriended monsters and Magic Seeds can damage gates, but, by default, they ignore them and focus on attacking the monsters that the gates produce.

Gate Types[]

Small CrystalNeutral Gates[]

"Green hued vortexes swirling with the pure manifestation of rune energy"

Neutral Gates are almost identical to Gale Gates, as they are both green. However, there is a tiny difference between them: Neutral Gates emit a darker green light while Gale Gates emit a much brighter green light. Additionally, Neutral Gates take full damage from all attacks; they do not have any elemental affinities or weaknesses. Some of the Neutral Gates in advanced dungeons, however, may halve all types of damage.

Since Neutral Gates are non-elemental, the item they drop (Small Crystal) is created by Rune Energy being crystallized with all other types of runes - including Rune Spirits. Because of this, Small Crystals are noticeably much more rare than other crystals.

EarthCrystalEarth Gates[]

"Earthly imbued swirling vortexes that can sometimes spawn vegetation by its base"

Earth Gates are light brown in color, resembling the earth.

There are three types of Earth-elemental Gates:

  • Field Gate, a smaller, static gate.
  • Star Gate, a smaller, mobile gate
  • and Earth Gate, a larger static gate.

Earth Gates are Earth elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Earth attacks. However, Earth Gates are weak to Wind elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Wind magic, or weapons with Wind properties.

They drop Earth Crystals: crystallized, resilient Earth energy in the form of a light brown rock.

Terra Gate

FireCrystalFire Gates[]

"Fiery and blazing hot swirling portal that causes heatwaves upon its manifestation"

Fire Gates are red and orange in color, resembling fire.

There are three types of Fire-elemental Gates:

  • Fire Gate, a smaller, static gate.
  • Blaze Gate, a smaller, mobile gate
  • and Flame Gate, a larger static gate.

Fire Gates are Fire elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Fire attacks. However, Fire Gates are weak to Water elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Water magic, or weapons with Water properties.

They drop Fire Crystals: crystals that are shaped like flames and warm to the touch.

Pyro Gate

WindCrystalGale Gates[]

"Swirling portals of pure breeze that take form as small, cyclone-like vortexes"

Gale Gates are green in color - similar to the Neutral Gate's color - resembling air. They are more common than any other gate because wind is always present.

Gale Gates are Wind elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Wind attacks. However, Gale Gates are weak to Earth elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Earth magic, or weapons with Earth properties.

They drop Wind Crystals: crystallized wind magic that release a turbulent breeze.

Gale Gate

WaterCrystalRime Gates[]

"A water-spouting vortex that gives out a horrendous tidal wave from its raging core"

Rime Gates are blue in color, which resembles the ocean.

Rime Gates are Water elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Water attacks. However, Rime Gates are weak to Fire elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Fire magic, or weapons with Fire properties.

They drop Water Crystals: crystallized water engery in the form of a fragile droplet.

Rime Gate

Dark CrystalEclipse Gates[]

"Pure, swirling clouds of darkness emerge from its core, which spewss out evil beings of chaotic malevolence"

Eclipse Gates are purplish black in color, relating to darkness and evil.

Eclipse Gates are Dark elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Dark attacks. However, Eclipse Gates are weak to Light elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Light magic, or weapons with Light properties.

Some Dark Gates in dungeons may drastically reduce damage from all other elements, or be immune to them.

They drop Dark Crystals.

Eclipse Gate

Light CrystalHalo Gate[]

"Swirling vortexes of pure righteousness, their vortex somehow spins like a ring of light, resembling halos"

Halo Gates are white and light yellow in color, relating to light.

Halo Gates are Light elemental gates, so they either have half or great resistance against Light attacks. However, Halo Gates are weak to Dark elemental damage - some even take double damage if attacked with Dark magic, or weapons with Dark properties.

Some Halo Gates in dungeons may drastically reduce damage from all other elements, or be immune to them.

They drop Light Crystals.

Halo Gate

Love CrystalHeart Gates[]

"Lovely pink-hued swirling vortexes born from the monsters love for the other world"

Heart Gates are pink in color as pink is considered to be a soft and passionate color, and relates to love.

Heart Gates are Love Elemental gates, so they take full damage from all elements and do not have any elemental affinity or weakness. However, some of them in more advanced dungeons halve all types of damage.

Heart Gates appear less often than any other gate, but they have a higher chance of dropping Heart Crystals.

Trivia[]

  • The crystals which the gates drop are similar to the crystals in the Final Fantasy series. The crystals in Final Fantasy also have Fire, Earth, Water and Wind elemental crystals. However, the crystals in the Final Fantasy series are bigger than the crystals in Rune Factory.
