"I do not know who I am or where I came from. I only know that I have been wandering, searching for...something. But this town... Could this place be what I've been looking for?"
―Kyle[src]

Kyle (カイル, Kairu, Kyle[1]) is the protagonist in the first generation of Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon.

Profile[]

Personality[]

Kyle has a mild-mannered and friendly personality. He is quick to stand up for those who are being treated unfairly, but seldom speaks up for himself when others are being unreasonable. Kyle is insightful, and can often read between the lines when people speak, but he keeps his observations to himself.

Appearance[]

Kyle has fair skin with auburn hair adorned by a blue bandana and yellow eyes. He wears clothes suited to working in warm weather, including open-toed boots, shorts, and a rough-woven work apron. Kyle also wears guntlets on his wrists and carries pouches for his tools.

Relationships[]

As Kyle gets to know the villagers, he can make many friends and even get married. His relationship with each of Alvarna's bachelorettes is different. Mana is the first person he met in Alvarna, and thus he has a special connection with her as she helped him settle in. However, their relationship is threatened by Mana's protective father, Douglas, whom Kyle will need to impress if he wants to marry her.

He also meets the owner of the local bath-house, Julia. Julia falls for Kyle's helpful attitude and rugged good looks right away, but it takes Kyle a little longer to warm up to this high-maintenance fashionista. What starts as confusion over her obsession with beauty eventually evolves into concern and understanding as she slowly lets her walls down and shows him her vulnerable self.

A more forward prospect, Alicia the fortune-teller uses her prediction services as a transparent excuse to spend extra time with Kyle. As he works with her, Kyle begins to learn how important her fortune-telling is, and helps her maintain her confidence in spite of the disapproval and disbelief of the townsfolk.

When Kyle first meets Dorothy, she runs away from him, too shy to even speak. Her father Gordon can see that Kyle is a gentle soul, however, and asks if he would try to get her out of her shell. With patience and compassion, Kyle helps coach Dorothy through her anxieties, so that she can pursue her dreams. When he gains her trust, he is able to see the true self that she hides from the world.

Kyle has to overcome a rival if he wants to marry Cecilia, as she already has a rapport with Jake, who can't stand the idea of Cecilia dating a human. After some time, Jake asks Cecilia to marry him, which distresses her greatly as she already has feelings for the cute new farmer, who has a kinder manner than the hot-headed half-elf.

The romantic in Kyle may be attracted to the de Sainte-Coquille heiress, Rosalind. Formal in her manner, Rosalind's relationship with Kyle begins as a professional one. But as she gets to know the farmer better and appreciate his loyal, compassionate nature, she begins to let her hair down. As they become closer, Kyle realizes that she is not only a rich woman, but also has insecurities and fears, and enjoys normal hobbies such as cooking and fashion.

Finally, as Kyle explores the dungeons, he may find himself getting to know Yue, the outgoing travelling merchant, who seems to be spending more time in Alvarna since Kyle came to town. Yue is forward and cheerful, but as Kyle earns her trust, she begins to feel comfortable being vulnerable around him. Although she is careful never to gripe, Kyle begins to realize how difficult life as a merchant is, and develops a deep sense of respect for the hard work she puts into her career.

Story[]

Kyle wanders into Alvarna with amnesia and stays on a run-down farm. With the help of Mana, he works the land and makes friends with the villagers. Over time, he falls in love and settles down with his new wife and child, even sponsoring the construction of Alvarna Academy to ensure his child will receive a good education.

Second Generation[]

Eight years after the construction of the school, Kyle awakes in the middle of a stormy night with his memories returned. He remembers that he was drawn to Alvarna because of a power lurking beneath it — the power of Fiersome, the Elder Dragon. The dragon said that it wanted to punish the village, and with no time to spare, Kyle left in the middle of the night to defeat the dragon. However, Aaron and Aria saw him leaving. He explained that there was something only he could do, and that he had no choice but to leave. Realizing his child could be the key, he gave them the Ancient Manuscript, hoping they could use it to solve the riddle of the four dungeons.

After leaving the house, Kyle descended into Palermo Shrine, where he merged with Fiersome to keep it sealed. He remained merged with the dragon for years until Aaron and Area reached the shrine and defeated it. Sadly, by then he had spent too much time merged with Fiersome's spirit, and could not return to the world, being drawn instead to the Forest of Beginnings. Fortunately, Aaron and Aria are stubborn, and managed to uncover the Omni-Gate spell that could free him from the monster realm.

Upon his return, Kyle reunites with his family and swears to never leave them again. He regains a relationship with his child, exchanging gifts and watching as they grow and learn. The entire village is happy in return.

Gifts[]

No matter his child brings him, Kyle is happy, telling them "Thanks a lot, [Child], I'm proud of you." He will also sometimes give them a snack in return, keeping a ready supply of Boiled Eggs, Ice Cream, Apple Juice, and Chocolate Cookies on hand.

Schedule[]

In the second generation, Kyle begins every morning at his desk in Farm House 1F. Around 9:00 in Spring, Summer, and Fall, he heads outside and works near the farm's field. In the winter, Kyle stands near the fireplace instead. He comes inside in the evening around 6:00 PM and goes to the master bedroom in Farm House 2F.
