Gaius (ガジ, Gaji, Gadzhi[1]) is a character in Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon.

Personality[]
Gaius is a laid-back dwarf who spends almost all of his time forging, mining, or running the shop. His obsession with forging causes him to forget basic things, like rest, so he sometimes ends up falling asleep in the middle of making something. He also forgets a lot of festival names, though he can clearly recall even complex weapon and crafting recipes. He himself is well aware of the fact that whenever he thinks about the forge, everything else slips his mind, but he loves forging so much that he just can't help it. After all, forging is a means of self-expression for him, allowing him to give shape to his words and feelings. He has no aspirations to become the best blacksmith there is—only to keep doing what he loves.
Gaius also has a sense of humour that utterly baffles Micah. For example, he often jokes that the protagonist has feelings for him, particularly when gifted a favorite item or during his proposal joke response. Apparently, he finds amusement in mildly messing with his friends, such as in Micah's reactions.
He is totally clueless when it comes to wooing girls.
Appearance[]
Gaius has unkempt black hair and pale blue eyes. He received the thick blue scar running from his right eye down his right cheek because of a mistake he had made while mining. His long, pointed ears are because he is a dwarf.
Gaius turns red when he states Evelyn's birthday or says something about her, and even the mere mention of her name is enough to make him blush.
Story[]
He is generally relied upon by many of the townsfolk to repair some of their equipment.
His crafting expertise will be required to facilitate the reconciliation between the humans of Sharance and the monsters of the univir settlement.

Micah: "Hey there, Gaius. I got your request..." Gaius: "Ah, you did? I just ran out of materials to forge." Gaius: "Do you think you could get some IRON for me?" Micah: "Sure!" Gaius: "You'll need a hammer to mine for it though. Here, use this one."

Micah: "Really? Are you sure?" Gaius: "Yeah, it's no problem. Anyway, to mine for ore, you're going to want to hit the gray rocks you see in PRIVERA FOREST and other dungeons." Micah: "Geay rocks, you say?" Gaius: "Yeah, gray rocks. Oh, also, you can mine with any kind of hammer, even those used for battle." Micah: "I see..." Gaius: "Oh, and if you accidentally lose you hammer, we have lots of them here at the shop." Micah: "Great! Thanks!" Gaius: "Well, I'm not going to give you a new one for free. Micah: "Uh, so I have to buy a new hammer from you if I lose this one...?" Gaius: "Yes. So I suggest not losing it. Thanks for your help!

Gaius: "Now, I should give you something in return for your help." Raven: "Why don't you give him you hammer...? Gaius: "Mine? Why mine?" Raven: "A newer hammer would be an improvement over what he currently has..." Raven: "You'd like Gaius' hammer, right...?" Micah: "What? Uh, sure... I mean, if it's being offered..." Gaius: "I don't mind. Here you..." Gaius: "Huh? My eyes... Can't...keep...them..."

Micah: "Gaius! Are you all right?!" Raven: "He's fine... He just fell asleep..." Micah: "Uh... Did he really fall asleep because he let go of his hammer?" Raven: "Gaius has a one-track mind when he's forging. It's all he can think about." Raven: "That's why I always try to make sure that he runs out of materials when it's time to go to sleep..." Micah: "Ah! So he stayed up too long because I gave him the iron to use..." Raven: "Yeah..." Micah: "I'm sorry..." Raven: "Don't worry about it. It's not you fault." Micah: "Thanks." Micah: "I guess I shouldn't take his hammer from him..." Raven: "Are you sure...?" Micah: "Yeah, it's fine." Raven: "I see..."

- Objective: Escort Gaius to Sol Terrano: Sand Sea to mine and talk about Raven.

At the forge, Gaius is happy to see Micah. He suggests that they go to Sol Terrano: Sand Sea. After leading him there, Gaius tells Micah that rocks are quiet, but they can be stubborn. They're just waiting for someone to talk to them. No matter how stubborn they are, you just have to talk to them. Warm them in the fire, and tinker away at them with your hammer. Even rocks can change their shape over time. Using a hammer just speeds it up a little. But working them too hard won't work, as shown by his right eye. Then he decides that it's time for them to return.
Outside the shop, he says Raven has been out of sorts recently. She just stops working and stares out the window. She's waiting for someone.

- Objective: Gaius wants to confess to Evelyn about his feelings for her, and Micah eventually suggests that Gaius directly propose to her, as that's the only way she might understand. Give him a Diamond so that he can make her an engagement ring.

Relationships[]
Gaius is very close to Raven in a father-daughter sort of way, though Raven seems to be the one who normally takes care of him. He himself feels that the store would be nothing without her, probably because he sees forging as more of a hobby and tends to give away what he makes instead of selling them. Gaius is actually Raven's adoptive brother, although Raven thinks of him like a father. Gaius doesn't really show his 'brotherly' or 'fatherly' affection towards her, making him more like a basic brother-like guardian instead. Despite how nonchalant he can seem, though, he genuinely cares for Raven, proving to be surprisingly perceptive of her mood and understanding of her behaviour. He never pries when she’s down, but he’ll sincerely worry about her, and he honestly enjoys forging together with her. Her quietness and his forging obsession tend to leave limited room for conversation, but they both clearly cherish each other’s presence in their lives.
Gaius has a crush on Evelyn because he prefers "cute girls instead of pretty ones", and even has a few requests where he needs help proposing to her (though nothing ever comes of it because she thinks he's just requesting more clothes). To him, she's like a piece of iron that's tricky to handle—which, according to Raven, is the greatest compliment he could ever give someone. Marjorie mentions that whenever Gaius visits the apothecary, he always stares outside the window, and she muses with a knowing smile if he's looking for someone. Since Evelyn lives close by, it's obvious that he's observing her.
Gaius gets along with practically all of the young men in town. From time to time, Carlos tries to drag him outside and fish with him for a bit so he can get a taste of sunshine. Even though Gaius knows Rusk likes sweets, he still doesn't give him any on his birthday.
Gaius calls Zaid 'that cheeky dwarf' and says he wonders how he's doing at the Unity Festival. Because Zaid doesn't have any particular attachment to rocks (though he does craft his own weapons), Gaius can hardly believe that they're even part of the same species.

Battle[]
Techniques: Crossed-eyed Forge
Gaius charges at the enemy (usually in mid-range) and attacks relentlessly while combining his attacks with his Greatsword skills like Flash Strike and Delta Strike. He is admirably very focused in battle and quite high in awareness and morale. In close-ranged combat, he likes to use the Greatsword dash attack while still not holding back.

Schedule[]
During weekdays, he wakes up at approximately 6:20AM, around the same time as Raven. He normally goes to bed at midnight. On festival days, he sleeps at 9PM.
At the Flea Market, he sells Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

- Before Micah knows his name, it will be shown as "???".
- He sometimes passes out while forging in the summer.
- He believes he can be friends with anyone who likes iron whether they're human, an elf, a dwarf, or a monster.
- He thinks slurping up hot Curry Udon in front of the hot forge on a hot day is the best. Especially the moment he passes out from the heat.
- At the Turnip Festival he once threw swords at the Turnips, but the town banned it.
- At the start of every year, he says he should work with Silver more but he never does.
- He gives Micah a Platinum for his birthday.
- He says every year that he only loses by one bean at the Bean Throwing Festival (but it's not true).
- He once got lost for three days on a mining expedition and ran out of food, so he had to fish for food.
